Elīna Garanča at Klassik in den Alpen 2019
Klassik in den Alpen 2019: operatic and culinary arts
Klassik in den Alpen is the name of Kitzbühel’s now legendary classical open-air concerts. This year’s is being held on 6 July 2019 on a magnificently lit stage in the heart of the stunning Kitzbühel mountains. Look forward to a very special programme featuring a mix of opera arias and well-known international songs, that will appeal as much to dedicated opera devotees and absolute beginners to the classical repertoire.
Romance, premieres and Elīna Garančas
Maestro Karel Mark Chichon’s responds to the event’s special atmosphere with an exceptional programme on the theme of romance with Elīna Garanča performing several Klassik open-air firsts: arias that have never before been heard in Kitzbühel such as ‘Plus grand dans son obscurité’ from Gounod’s La Reine de Saba. Although usually sung by a tenor, ‘No puede ser’, the Zarzuela from Pablo Sorozábal’s La tabernera del puerto, is another of Garanča’s premieres. The composer always wanted a female voice for this role, so Sorozábal’s heirs gave her special dispensation to interpret this role. She and her musical guests will sing arias from Romeo et Juliette, La Traviata, Lucia di Lammermoor, La Bohème and Tosca, as well as the finale of the second act of Carmen – another Klassik open-air premiere.
The concert’s medley section has grown into a tradition and annual highlight, with new arrangements presented by Karel Mark Chichon each year. 2019’s title is Sol y Vida (sun and life), which is also the title of Elīna Garanča’s latest CD, and the medley incorporates South American, Spanish and Italian songs such as ‘Vai lavar a cara’, ‘T’estimo’, ‘Lela’, ‘Torna a Surriento’ and ‘Brazil’. Karel Mark Chichon will be conducting the Volksoper Wien’s Symphonieorchester.
