Wednesday, 22 January starts with the juniors, and the Super-G skiers get their turn on Friday. The Hahnenkamm Downhill on Saturday is considered one of the world’s hardest descents, with gradients of up to 85 percent, speeds of up to 140km per hour and jumps of up to 80m. The slalom race on the Ganslern is on Sunday.

For Kitzbühel, the annual highlight of the World Cup means more than superb sporting achievements: the race is also a social high point. Stars from across the world are drawn to Kitz for the races, attracting hosts of reporters and paparazzi in their wake. To catch sight of the celebrities, simply attend the legendary parties. Dinner at the 5-star Hotel Restaurant Spa Rosengarten in Kirchberg, Tyrol is a much more laid-back affair.
